Art plays a vital role in Tibetan culture and has long been a profound tool for social and political change. Through auctions, we showcase artwork from a diverse international pool of established and emerging artists, including a growing number of outstanding contemporary Tibetan artists.

Shepard Fairey
An American graphic artist and social activist, a major artist of the Street Art movement, best known for his Hope (2008) campaign which portrays a portrait of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama, in red, white, and blue. Fairey is the founder of OBEY Clothing, a streetwear brand recognized worldwide for incorporating politically and socially provocative messaging.

Cey Adams
A visual artist, graphic designer and author. He was the founding creative director of Def Jam Recordings, where he created visual identities for Run DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z and more. Cey draws inspiration from 60’s pop art, sign painting, comic books, and popular culture.

Yangzom Brauen
An award-winning Film and TV Director. In 2009 she wrote her first book “Across Many Mountains”, which became an instant European Bestseller and has been translated into 12 languages. “Across Many Mountains” is a memoir about three generations of Tibetan women: Yangzom’s grandmother a Tibetan nun, her mother, and her own story.

Yeshe Gyaltag
Yeshe Gyaltag, aka YESHE, is a Tibetan singer-songwriter and artist, born and raised in Switzerland, based in New York City and Zurich. Her parents were part of the first group of Tibetan refugees who immigrated to Switzerland in 1960. YESHE performed recently live at Basel Social Club at Art Basel, at the Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College, and together with the collective xenometok at Theaterhaus Gessnerallee in Zurich and Kaaitheater/Les Halles in Brussels.

Tenzin Choegyal
Tenzin Choegyal is a leading musician in the Tibetan tradition, celebrated for his artistry and dedication to cultural preservation. A Grammy-nominated artist for Songs from the Bardo, he blends ancient Tibetan spiritual wisdom with contemporary composition, creating transcendent musical experiences. Born to Tibetan nomads, his connection to the music of the high Himalayas is evident in his evocative performances. With over three decades of experience, Tenzin has captivated audiences at renowned venues like Carnegie Hall and international music festivals. Recently, he made his acting debut in State of Statelessness, premiering at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival. His latest album, Whispering Sky, showcases his creative evolution and passion for cross-genre partnerships.

Arpana Rayamajhi
Arpana Rayamajhi is a New York-based Nepali artist and designer, known for her jewelry line, Arpana Rayamajhi, which features unique, hand-crafted pieces showcased by international retailers such as Selfridges UK and No Borders Shop in Mumbai. She is also the co-founder of DISPOSE, a digital magazine exploring global perspectives through photography. Arpana is currently working on her debut album, “About Time”.

Tim Okamura
Tim Okamura, a Canadian-born artist based in New York, is renowned for combining traditional oil painting with collage and abstraction to explore identity and social themes. His work has earned numerous accolades, including a 2004 Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts and multiple BP Portrait Award selections. Okamura’s art is exhibited globally and held in prestigious collections like The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and The New York Historical Society Museum. In 2015 Okamura received an invitation to The White House where he received a letter of commendation from then Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, in honor of his work addressing issues of social justice and criminal justice reform.

ART FOR TIBET was founded in 2009. All proceeds from the auction support Students for a Free Tibet (SFT), a 501(c)3 global grassroots network that campaigns for Tibetan freedom and human rights. ART FOR TIBET raises critical funds that enable SFT to carry out its urgent mission. SFT works in solidarity with the Tibetan people in their struggle for freedom and independence.
